You go play Everquest and see how much you make in 1-3 minutes SOLOING. The beautiful thing about everquest is you can start now and still catch up at an even keel from 10 years ago. But, with GW allowing so much income and easy farming is just ruining it for everyone else new to the game and it will just get worse and worse if they don't control it. I think it's already too late though really. But, the mass exodus when GW2 comes out will help a lot to bring it back into the swing of fairness for all. Only thing is there won't be many left playing it. Only a handful of players should have stacks and stacks of ectoes not every GD body in the game. I have my stacks but that is beside the point. )

Armor prices are the same as they were 4 years ago (cheaper, really, since mats are so cheap now) and it's never been cheaper to get nearly any weapon skin you want with perfect mods (particularly if you'll settle for 1% off of max). I really don't see how newcomers are all that disadvantaged; if anything, they're disadvantaged because all us oldbies have played through all of the content already, so they're not very liable to find anyone to play with the campaigns with them anymore.

Just to second what Skyy High said, when this game was new here's a sample of what u could expect to pay for things:
- 100k for a +30 sword pommel(they were used as trading currency)
- 100k for a superior absorption rune
- 100k+ectos for a weapon with an inherent 15%^50 mod(usually)
- totally sick money for rare skins such as chaos axes
- 60k for a 5/1 vamp bowstring
- 100k for a sup vig
I dont really remember what ecto went for, but it used to be a helluvalot harder to get your obsidian armor. Nowadays all you have to do is learn to UWSC and if youre any good you'll have all the ecto you need within a month. It was also next to impossible to get a perfectly modded wand and offhand combo, at least until Sorrow's Furnace came out. We didnt have heroes either, I got so sick of pugging THK and Hell's Precipice that I ended up henching it....barely. Nowadays all you have to do is load up heroes with any number of powerfully synergistic builds and let them do most if not all of the work. I really dont see how the newer generation of GW players has it harder than us older generation players when we were new.

Well, people used to farm in places for specific items like dead swords and elemental swords so there was diversity. But in the state of the game right now, skins that used to be rare and mods are worthless. GW:EN just gives more efficient choices considering numbers of enemies and kill speed are probably the most important things now.

What is totally wrong is that a game with limited levels and item stats turned into a farming game.
FARM WARS
Now farming got almost industrialized, how "fun".

ecto around then was around 8k-15k each. Newer players also have access to wikis. The older generation had to learn the missions and bonus through trial and error. Newer players have it way too easy, and I think that is what is wrong with most pugs now. Granted, they were bad around the time frame prior to sorrows furance...now, I could just imagine how bad people are just by reading all chat in LA or Kamadan.

sad but true
is there anything else to do when you've completed each campaign 10 times ? farm or grind your titles
farming is worthless nowadays, with the huge amount of wealth already in game, 99% of items (even gold perfect weapons with decent skins) worth nothing, and an insane inflation on what can be considered rare, you're not getting anywhere by farming

Drunkard - Sweet Tooth - Party = Max them at 3,000 points then we can talk about killing farms.

I've maxed sweet tooth and I'm about 3/4 of the way done with party animal, and I've never solo farmed for any extended period of time. By which I mean, I'll occasionally load up a solo-farming build and do a couple of runs, mainly just to see what it's like, and then I won't farm again for weeks. Can we please stop saying that the only way to get those titles is via farming?
Now, if you said lucky/unlucky or wisdom, then the only way to get them might be via farming.

Yup, it was great knowing you could find something of real value doing whatever you wanted. Nowadays it's hoping the end chest drops something nice and farming that chest as quickly as humanly possible.

I tend to agree, but I think these should just be account wide. I tend to horde my holiday items for one toon (much like people used to horde keys/lockpicks). If they were account wide, I could just max them and be done with it. Then I could sill up my inventory with other crap.
I can only speak for myself, but my main reason for doing those farms was getting items for titles. A stack or two would suffice if I only needed them for their bonus. Less farming, more playing in that case, and I could focus on other titles (cart, guardian, etc.), and maybe even do some PVP instead of farms.
Which by the way, I can't do now becaus eI had one farmer (my mes) and both farms got nerfed for her. so sad

I think most people used XTH as variant to play more, less farm.
I used to sell zkeys i get, and then i play more, less farm, because every month id had some type of "getting nice amount of money for things" but not to spend hours to farm them.

How long have you been working on it? And where are you getting your points from? If you aren't farming them, then either you've been accumulating them slowly for far longer than I've been playing the game, or you're buying them. If you're buying them, how do you get that much cash without farming?
I've been working on Party Animal for about a year now, with 6,500 points now. Every one of them farmed. Farmed directly, farmed via collectables for festival traders, farmed via festival quests, or farmed via collectables for Nick in Pre and Post. If I hadn't done that, I would have had to farm for the cash to buy the points. Either that, or hung around Kamadan spamming "I can haz a sparkler plz??"
Seriously, I don't see how I could have gotten this far in just a year without farming. Perhaps if I had been playing from the beginning of GW then it wouldn't be necessary, but I don't see any way around it at this point. I'm also working on Treasure Hunter, Lucky/Unlucky, and Wisdom. Plus I intend to fill my HoM. And a set of FoW for at least one of my characters. Is there really any practical way to do this in the next year or so without farming?

Lets not forget also that getting runes and upgrades wasnt as straightforward then, if you hit salvage you could end up with 10 cloth or the superior rune, you had to throw the dice back then.

Yeah, back in those days when you were going for 10 million xp. Ahhh.
Back then, farming was easy to do, and you made a lot of money off it. The only thing that beats it now is UWSC I'd have to say, if even that.
Remember before it got nerfed, 55ing UW with Prot bond? That made more than raptor/kegging. Ettins in 2005 and early 2006 made more than kegging and raptors. Tengu before they got nerfed, Griffons like has been said, troll farming..any 55 farming before AOE nerf. Almost any warrior farming before damage fix. Hell doing anything before NF you could amass a large sum of cash.
You know why? No inscribables.
The best farm was the old sin UW solo though. A stack or more of ectos a day is ridiculous, even compared to the old days.
